Lean on Love

From the January 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Just as a mother bird extends a sheltering wing over her brood, the tender, mighty embrace of divine Love encompasses its precious creation. God’s unfailing love for Her children is beautifully chronicled throughout the Bible, where that love weaves, through more than 4,000 years of history, a golden thread uniting broken families, healing all manner of illness, restoring life, supplying human needs, and neutralizing whatever would harm. Scripture shows us that there is not a single situation that the power of divine Love cannot solve or heal.

Our ability to demonstrate Love’s healing power in this age is rooted in the very first chapter of Genesis, where we read, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (verse 3). Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science, explains in her textbook that this light is “the light of ever-present Love” that “illumines the universe” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 503).

Think what that means! The whole of creation, from the infinitesimal to the infinite, is illumined with the radiance of divine Love. Love is the only creator and fills all space. Every idea of God is designed to manifest Love, and is lovable, loved, loving, and lovely. Therefore, when one is faced with a condition or circumstance that is inconsistent with divine Love, such as illness or discord, it can be seen as having no authority. Love sanctions only the evidence of itself as the one, all-loving creator, and as infinite good. The moment of healing is the very moment we recognize this.
