Christian Science practitioner roundtables: a fresh focus evolves

From the March 2014 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Originally published as a Journal web article on January 1, 2014.

Web designers. An opera singer. Journalists. A dog trainer. And a physician who took Christian Science class instruction.

These are just a few who’ve come together at the Christian Science practitioner roundtables we’ve launched around the United States in the last several months. The sessions are nurturing what we like to think of as “kitchen table” conversations, where Journal-listed practitioners, as well as those keenly interested in working toward listing, gather in a relaxed, spontaneous “nothing is off the table” atmosphere. An atmosphere that nurtures this vital foundation stone for our Church and our movement—the healing practice.

The phrase that comes to me is “safe space,” where participants are encouraged to share insights, concerns, and fears about the journey to and in the healing practice. And since all Christian Scientists find themselves in the daily practice of this Science, there’s no hierarchy—everybody is free to share, ask, and ponder anything.
