[Deborah Huebsch, “The healing power of oneness,” Journal, March 2021]
Thank you for this deep and beautiful article. For the most part, I didn’t like Principle as a synonym for God. I thought it was cold. But “Principle and its idea is one. . . .” from page 465 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and this article changed my thought. I understand more this beautiful Science called Christian Science.
Thanks to Andrea Ward for “Confidently speaking the truth” (Journal, February 2021). It reminded me of an experience I had when I heard a rather forlorn voice trying to pose as my thinking say, “No one is interested in what I have to offer.”
Before it could finish, a thought from Science and Health interrupted it: “Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ’s name, and never fear the consequences” (p. 570). The word millions stood out. It doesn’t say tens, hundreds, or even thousands, but millions.
As I’ve held in thought everyone’s inherent receptivity and heartfelt yearning since then, I’ve rarely encountered anyone not interested in hearing about God and Christian Science. A favorite example is an Uber trip where a friend and I discussed healing mental illness in light of the healing of the Gadarene by Jesus (see Mark 5:1–20). The driver asked me to read that Bible story, and after further metaphysical discussion we shared a copy of Science and Health with him. The hungering was there. And the sharing was so natural and easy. I’m so grateful to God.

Challenge the model
[Brian Webster, “Mortality isn’t a law. Don’t consent!” Journal, February 2021]
I have read, reread, and underlined this article several times. It is such a powerful reminder and example of not accepting as true what seemed to be true, even for centuries. We need these reminders that the material, mortal model must be challenged by each of us. Just because so many believe it’s true doesn’t make it true!
Saving this one
[Christine Jenks Driessen, “Purifying our motives and thoughts propels healing,” Journal, November 2020]
One of the most healing essays I have ever read in my life. It is healing now. I’m saving this one.
