Healing aided by Christian Science nursing

From the November 2022 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A little over a year ago, I was sitting on the lounge (couch) one evening about to listen by phone to the Wednesday testimony meeting of my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, when I felt I was losing consciousness. I was very fearful because I couldn’t hold my head up and needed the lounge to support it.

I quickly phoned a Christian Science practitioner and managed to tell her of the problem. She immediately affirmed the first part of “the scientific statement of being” found in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (p. 468). The practitioner also stressed that the one Mind, God, is always conscious, and there is no other Mind.

I wanted to go to my bed in the bedroom, but I was unable to get off the lounge. The practitioner suggested that I stay where I was and phone a Christian Science nurse, because I lived alone. The nurse I called was willing to come, but as we spoke, the strong statements of truth which she shared gave me much assurance. My fear was allayed, and I decided it was not urgent that she come so late at night. She promised to call to check on me in the morning.

After we hung up, I suddenly felt extremely thirsty and nauseated, and wanted to get a drink from the kitchen. I managed to do this. Then I thought that since I had gotten as far as the kitchen, I could get to the bed. This I did. (I never did get sick.) I slept all night, and when the Christian Science nurse phoned early the next morning, I was able to report to her that I was perfectly well. I have never had any aftereffects.

I am so grateful for this healing, and for the loving help of Christian Science practitioners and Christian Science nurses, who are so willing to immediately give help when it is needed.

It is with great joy that I give this testimony, because through this experience I was inspired to rejoin the Christian Science Nursing Service, which supports the activity of Christian Science nursing in my area.
