Testimonies of Healing

Before I took up the study of...

From the July 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before I took up the study of Christian Science it was my privilege to witness an almost instantaneous healing of a lady whom the doctors had said would be a semi-invalid for life. Feeling no need of a religion based, as I thought, on physical healing, I became very critical of its Founder and soon forgot about it altogether.

Some twelve years later, during which time I do not remember hearing anything more of this Science, I found myself out of employment, almost without funds, and with a wife considered to be seriously ill. For several weeks I tried earnestly to obtain a position, but finally became so mentally unstrung that I hesitated even to approach a prospective employer. Reaching home one day, in a state of utter despair, I was reviewing the past when the thought of the above healing came before me. It was a Wednesday, and I remembered there was a meeting on that evening in the Christian Science churches. Locating the nearest one I made my way to it, and entering, took a seat. Upon looking up I saw printed on the wall in front of me the statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494,) "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."

As if a load had dropped from my shoulders, the beauty of this promise reached my consciousness and I felt that my problem was solved. I remembered nothing of the service but came away filled with confidence. For three days there was no change, but I was without fear, and then, from a source I had considered closed, I obtained a position.
