Testimonies of Healing

The words of the following hymn...

From the October 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The words of the following hymn express the gratitude I feel for Christian Science (Hymnal, No. 375):

We thank Thee, Father-Mother,
For blessings, light and grace
Which bid mankind to waken
And see Thee face to face.
We thank Thee, when in anguish
We turn from sense to Soul,
That we may hear Thee calling:
Rejoice, for thou art whole.

I shall never forget the wonderful peace that came to me when, after months and months of untold suffering from rheumatic fever, St. Vitus's dance, and heart disease, a Christian Science practitioner was called. I had been a helpless girl, unable to speak, walk, or even feed myself. In a short time I could speak distinctly, and feed myself. Then came that never-to-be-forgotten day when I dressed and walked into another room. Great was my mother's joy when she saw me enter the kitchen. Although I had missed school I was able to go on with my classmates and graduate from high school.

It was my privilege to serve as an associate at The Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, from January, 1931, to June, 1932. For this beautiful experience I am truly grateful.

At one time I awakened with an earache. I tried to cling to the perfect concept of man as the child of God, but the suffering became more intense. A Christian Scientist came and read to me from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the definition of "man" as given on page 475. Instantly the abscess opened and drained, and the pain ceased. I was healed. "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

My testimony would not be complete without an expression of gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society. Also, I am grateful for class instruction. My daily prayer is that I may live so as to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.— ,
