Testimonies of Healing

A testimony from me is long overdue,...

From the November 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A testimony from me is long overdue, and I should like to express my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I have been healed of discordant conditions and of smoking and the social drinking habit.

Although previously interested in Christian Science, I drifted away from it while serving with the Royal Air Force in India during World War II. At that time I contracted a skin disease and was eventually sent home and given the best medical attention possible. After some weeks in hospital I was discharged, having been told by the specialist that there was nothing more he could do for me and that I would never be entirely free from the trouble, particularly if I remained in the sun or in strong artificial light. I would not accept this verdict and turned again to Christian Science. A practitioner worked for me until the healing was complete. I have since spent much time in the hottest sun and worked in the glare of powerful are lamps with no return of the condition. This healing took place more than six years ago.

Four years ago I was fulfilling a theatrical engagement in New Zealand when, after a performance, I had a sudden heart attack. A practitioner was called, and immediately loving help was given. Due to the terms of my contract, I had to undergo a thorough medical examination, which was made with the most modern devices known to medical science. The verdict was that I must go into hospital for a long course of treatment, during which I would not be permitted even to feed myself. I turned to Christian Science unreservedly, and with the tireless help of the practitioner, who frequently sat beside my bed for many hours during the day and night, fear was overcome, and my healing followed.

I was greatly helped at this time by the following extracts from "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy: page 185, lines 7 to 14; page 50, line 18 to line 3 on the following page; and page 343, lines 5 to 9. Three or four weeks later I was traveling by land, sea, and air. Two months later, while in Australia, I was examined b another specialist, who said that he could find no trace of my ever having had heart trouble. This experience made me study Christian Science more deeply, and this work brought a great peace. The chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy has been a great comfort to me. What a wonderful sixteen and a half pages on that subject!

My heart is filled with gratitude to the practitioners who have so lovingly and patiently answered my calls for help and to my wife for all the help she has given me. For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction from a consecrated teacher, and for all the Christian Science literature, I am indeed thankful.—

I gladly verify my husband's testimony. I was with him when the above healings took place and should like to add my sincere thanks for the wonderful work done by practitioners on these and other occasions. More recently I had help for a severe attack of lumbago and was completely healed in a few days. Many blessings and much comfort have come to me through serving in a branch church, and I am constantly reminded of our Leader's wisdom and courage and of her love for all mankind.
