Testimonies of Healing

From the March 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Psalms we read (51:15), "O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise." It is my hope that this testimony will show forth God's praise.

I was reared in an orthodox Protestant religion. As I advanced to an age of reasoning for myself I desired to know how Christ Jesus performed the healings related in the King James Version of the Bible and why this healing ministry was, as I believed, no longer practiced. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 1): "Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."

My desire, or prayer, was answered when a companion lovingly explained Christian Science to me after I had found accommodation in the home of a student of this Science. For hours at a time I absorbed the truth with eagerness, knowing that it was the religion I had been longing for. I began to attend church services and six months later discarded my glasses, which I had worn for twelve years.

Since childhood I had been troubled with constipation, for which I had taken much medicine. I suffered also from a distressing condition of hemorrhoids. One day I was overtaken by an attack of this latter condition which left me delirious at intervals and in agony. A Christian Science practitioner was consulted, and through the consecrated and faithful work that was done both the constipation and the hemorrhoids were healed in about six weeks. This healing, which has been permanent, occurred over thirty-three years ago. Following it I became a member of The Mother Church and a branch church. Colds have been healed, and other difficulties too numerous to mention have dropped away as I have continued my study and application of Christian Science.

I am deeply grateful to God, good, for His messenger to this age, Mrs. Eddy. Her revelation of Truth has reinstated primitive Christian healing as it was practiced by the master Christian, Christ Jesus. I am very grateful for the good work done by the practitioners.—
