Testimonies of Healing

In the Bible we read (Ex. 23:20), "Behold...

From the March 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the Bible we read (Ex. 23:20), "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." As I review my experience since becoming acquainted with Christian Science eight years ago, I thankfully acknowledge God's unfailing guidance and support every step of the way.

I became interested in Christian Science at the time of my mother's last illness. When she passed on, I found myself alone with a large house in a changing neighborhood and with very little income. There seemed to be many difficulties in finding a happy solution of my problems. I also felt unequal to the effort of furthering a business career.

However, through the encouragement of a practitioner who had befriended me in this trying period, I had hope in Christian Science; so I started attending services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, regularly. In due time I became a member of both The Mother Church and a branch church and also had class instruction. I am very grateful for having been led to take these steps.

Though I was now rejoicing in the new way of life, the problem of the house remained unsolved, and I was not making much headway financially. However, I was devoting a great deal of my time to the daily study of the Bible and of Mrs. Eddy's writings and to some phase of church work. Then one day I was offered employment in the office of the Christian Science Committee on Publication. This gave me the additional financial support I needed and great spiritual uplift as well.

My confidence in God's unfailing care was so strengthened by this turn of events that I was encouraged to put my house up for sale. Since it had been my home for thirty-eight years, there was much reluctance to let go of what I felt was evidence of security. I had many lessons to learn, for we are not quickly delivered from the temptation to cling to old beliefs. Nevertheless, obedience to God and a willingness to follow His guidance must replace the human disposition to outline materially. Also I had to realize that my real home was already established in divine consciousness, where love for God and man is always expressed.

When the old concepts began to yield to this better understanding, events moved rapidly. My house was sold at a price exceeding that which other houses in the neighborhood were normally bringing, and I was also able without strain or worry to dispose of all unneeded furniture.

When the sale of my house had been accomplished, I inquired about an apartment house that had been offered for sale the year before and found that it had just been put back on the market. This time I quickly availed myself of the opportunity to purchase it as an investment, and with the assurance of this additional income I was able to rent a lovely smaller apartment for my own use in a fine neighborhood.

Is it any wonder that Christian Scientists are grateful for a religion that offers so satisfactory a solution of every problem? I desire above all else to continue to prepare myself to receive more of the divine revelation of good that never ceases to unfold in Science.

My prayer is that my experience may be like a candle in the darkness to show others, by my example, that in Christian Science it can be demonstrated that God, divine Love, meets every need, no matter how dreary the prospect may seem. I am more grateful for Christian Science than I can ever express in words.—
