ASSURANCE OF GOD'S LOVE

From the March 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"As the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Thus God's promise reads (Isa. 55:10, 11), and God's promise, which is in the nature of law, does not fail.

It had been snowing all night. As morning dawned I looked out of the window, and those beautiful words of assurance from the Bible came to me. I thought how humanly impossible it would be to stop the snow from falling. If an army of men and tons of heavy equipment attempted to do so, their efforts would be quite in vain. So any effort to stop God's love and His law from being made manifest would be futile.

"My word . . . shall not return unto me void," God says, "but it shall accomplish that which I please." What does God "please" concerning His universe and His children? Who are His children? And what is God's law concerning them?
