Testimonies of Healing

I am grateful for the progress of the...

From the October 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am grateful for the progress of the building of the new Christian Science Center in Boston. It is my desire that Christian Science be the foundation of my life even as God is its Principle, and that my consciousness be built on the rock of Christ, Truth.

In The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, in a letter Mary Baker Eddy wrote to Second Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, there is this appropriate statement for this building program today (p. 202): "May the benediction of 'Well done, good and faithful,' rest worthily on the builders of this beautiful temple, and the glory of the resurrection morn burst upon the spiritual sense of this people with renewed vision, infinite meanings, endless hopes, and glad victories in the onward and upward chain of being."

Twelve years ago, at the time the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church was being held in Boston, my daughter was healed of a serious ear infection and loss of hearing. I was mindful of the meeting and of the great good that goes out in the reports of healing.

Through the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner the inspired thought came to me that nothing could resist the healing power of Truth as taught in Christian Science. I realized that no medical or theological misconceptions in my own thinking could prevail, and that the child's thinking was of the purest kind. Christ Jesus said, "Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt. 16: 18). The child was very soon completely healed, and her hearing has remained perfectly normal. In the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy says (p. 136), "Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing."

I would also like to express gratitude for the prayerful support of my parents and their confident expectation of a complete healing during the time when the condition seemed serious, and for their having started me in the Christian Science Sunday School when I was nine.

There have been many other healings in our family, including instances of divine protection, direction, and supply. There have been instances of finding valuable lost articles when the acknowledgment of true, spiritual substance was adhered to. Also, I have experienced painless childbirth.

For these experiences I am very grateful, but even more for the increasing feeling of closeness to God that comes through the study of the Bible and the revelation given us by Mary Baker Eddy.

I am the daughter mentioned in the above testimony, and I would like to verify that the healing took place as my mother described it.
