How my parents’ trust in God fostered my own

From the December 2022 issue of The Christian Science Journal

 Originally published in French.

When your loving, tender, caring parents share with you from an early age their trust in God, that trust marks you for life. And at some point that trust can become your own.

I am very happy when I remember that when my siblings or I woke up in the night, crying because something hurt, my parents would take us in their arms and pace the living room floor, praying and singing hymns aloud. With our heads on their shoulders, we listened to those encouraging and confidence-inspiring truths that we ourselves had learned while attending the Christian Science Sunday School. The fact that these words were associated with our parents’ own reliance on God and God’s love gave them a more tangible and reassuring meaning for us.

Loving parents who wanted the best for their children, they trusted what they were learning about God’s omnipresence and omnipotence, relying with conviction on the spiritual truths taught in Christian Science. And very often on those occasions when my siblings or I needed help, we would peacefully fall asleep in their arms, healed right then and there.
