For a few decades, I suffered from recurring symptoms of asthmatic bronchitis, which were often aggressive. But one day I received a gift subscription to The Herald of Christian Science and started to read all the articles and testimonies in this magazine. I realized that the ideas I was assimilating were helping me to lift my thought to God. As I read the Herald, little by little those aggressive symptoms started to fade until they completely disappeared.
I realize that by reading the Herald I was entertaining “angels unawares.”
I also started to read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and today I realize that by reading the Herald I was entertaining “angels unawares.” We find these words on page 299 of Science and Health. On this same page, Mrs. Eddy explains: “My angels are exalted thoughts, appearing at the door of some sepulchre, in which human belief has buried its fondest earthly hopes. With white fingers they point upward to a new and glorified trust, to higher ideals of life and its joys. Angels are God’s representatives. These upward-soaring beings never lead towards self, sin, or materiality, but guide to the divine Principle of all good, whither every real individuality, image, or likeness of God, gathers. By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides, they tarry with us, and we entertain ‘angels unawares’ ”
I understand now that I was healed as my thought was gradually lifted up and naturally guided to a more spiritual understanding of God and of my real identity—an understanding that I am the spiritual and perfect image and likeness of our Father-Mother God.
This healing happened at the beginning of 2013, and the symptoms have never recurred. I am very grateful to God and to Mary Baker Eddy, who gave us the teachings of Christian Science, which help us obtain a better understanding of God and know ourselves as the beloved children of our creator, always loved and cared for by Him.
