From the December 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From Houghton, Mifflin & Co., we acknowledge the following holiday publications:

"Reckonings For Every Day—A Calendar of Thought;" arranged by Lucy Larcom. The compiler's name is sufficient guarantee for the excellence of this book, but a perusal of it will make the reader wish to own it. It is a book one would like to see close at hand. It is full of rich gems, culled with care and taste from the vast mines of thought. Some are familiar, but very many are quite new in this form. The pages are characterized by a fervent Christian hope and faith. It will be a favorite Calendar for the New Year.

"Holy Tides," by Mrs. A. D. T. Whitney, is an exquisite Christmas leaflet, and the many lovers of Mrs. Whitney's words will find her rhymes filled with the same aspirations for the higher life. Her little poems are mostly upon the Life and Love of Christ, the fellowship of Jesus with all men, the oneness with Him which is shared by those whose lives are sorrow-crowned, struggle-worn, yet victorious over sin. We bespeak a welcome for these "Seven Songs of Holy Tides."
