It has been said of our Sunday services and Wednesday...

From the September 1906 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT has been said of our Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings that they are so correlated as to be in reality a single service, and that this harmonious blending of the two is recognized even by those who are not Christian Scientists, is shown by an article in a recent issue of The Church World, written by a contributor who visited The Mother Church of Christ, Scientist, and who was greatly impressed by the large midsummer congregations which she saw there. She says that she "could not think that the Sunday service alone explained the hold of their belief upon them, though they evidently appreciated the opportunity to worship together. She understood the matter better when the next week she visited their mid-week meeting, where scores of people testified to their deliverance from the delusion that they were ill. So the message that she carried back to her home church from the week's visitation was that however we may differ from Christian Scientists theologically, they certainly set us a worthy example in their emphasis on the systematic reading of the Scriptures individually and in company, and on glad testimony to blessings received."

Our Sunday services stand for the preaching of the healing and regenerating gospel of Christ, and at the Wednesday evening meetings the fulfilment of the promises of this gospel is made known to all who are questioning whether or not the power which upheld our Master's ministry is still with us. He said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover," and we know of no satisfactory and convincing test that can be applied to any profession of Christianity other than this declaration of the Founder of Christianity. He performed all the marvelous works which he said should "follow them that believe," and it is of the utmost importance that the world should know that these works are being done at the present time; and that they are being done through the teachings of Science and Health is a fact which should also be known.

Obedience to the spirit of the new By-law regarding testimonials, which appears in this issue of the Journal, will render our mid-week meetings of still greater value than they have been in the past. We are thankful for our Leader's wise guidance in this as in all other matters vital to the interest of our Cause, and therefore to humanity.
