JOSEPH ARMSTRONG, C.S.D.

From the January 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with profound sympathy that we record the passing away of our beloved associate and brother, Joseph Armstrong, C.S.D., after a career of great usefulness to the Cause of Christian Science. Mr. Armstrong was a student of Mrs. Eddy, personally taught by her in the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, and was successful as a teacher and practitioner of Christian Science. He was admitted to membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., Dec. 31, 1892. March 23,1893, he was appointed a member of The Christian Science Board of Directors, and an Executive Member, Jan. 14, 1895, positions of trust in which he served both faithfully and well the Cause and the Leader so dear to him.

Mr. Armstrong was well known to Christian Scientists throughout the world, and his official duties brought him into close and intimate relations with the most prominent and active members of the denomination, especially during the building of The Mother Church edifice in 1894, and through his book, "The Mother Church," a history of the erection of this edifice so dear to all Christian Scientists. He possessed the esteem and confidence of those who knew him, and his counsel and advice were greatly valued. Mrs. Eddy's confidence in his good judgment and ability was evidenced by her appointment of him, in August, 1896, as the publisher of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other writings.

A career such as that of Mr. Armstrong could not be without value to his fellow-men, and in remembering the good which he has done and which lives on we shall show appreciation of our brother's character and work.
