Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

From the September 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a grateful heart that I wish to tell of the blessings which I and my family have received through Christian Science. Four years ago our nine-months-old boy was taken ill with acute lung trouble and had medical attendance. A dear acquaintance and neighbor, who had had years' experience in nursing children and who had our baby very much at heart, asked us to let her take charge of him. We did not know that she was a Scientist but felt confident that the baby would be well provided for and be under better care with her than even we could afford to give it, while attending to business. We therefore gladly accepted and consented that she should do whatever she thought best for the child. She then asked a Christian Science practitioner to take up treatment. On the following day I found the child's condition very much improved and the fever gone, and when the physician called on the next day he could hardly understand why such an improvement should have taken place. The boy was healed.

I then plied the good woman with questions, as I felt sure that this occurrence was altogether unusual, and I wished to ascertain what it meant. She gave me Der Herold der Christian Science and other Christian Science literature to read, and the result was that I applied to the practitioner for treatment for myself. During the two weeks of treatment which I had, I experienced such a sense of well-being that wherever I was I could have burst into the words: "Know ye. that the Lord he is God!" I was able again to perform my daily work without experiencing pain, and ate without fear of everything that could be had at the market. My despondent frame of mind, which had been accompanied by great physical weariness, disappeared, rigid muscles became supple, a bowel difficulty, lack of appetite, and a rheumatic trouble were cured; a discharge from the ear, of years' standing, was overcome, and hernia, with which I had been afflicted for twelve years, ceased to cause me suffering.

Later on my dear wife was healed of an abdominal trouble through Christian Science, and our six-year-old boy of a high fever. We have been greatly blessed also in a business way, and words fail to express my feeling of gratitude. I am deeply thankful to God, also grateful to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to all who are engaged in Christian Science work for their faithfulness and selfless love.—
