Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

An overflowing sense of gratitude...

From the December 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An overflowing sense of gratitude prompts me to testify to the wonderful healing which has come to me through Christian Science. For over eight years I was afflicted with neuralgic pain, which would often increase until it seemed unbearable. The best physicians were consulted, and no remedy was left untried, but it all proved of no avail. The constant fear of a change of temperature made life a misery, and the physician gave me no hope of recovery. Man's extremity, however, is God's opportunity. My attention was then called to Christian Science through a lady with whom I was acquainted, and a brief perusal of the literature bearing on the subject inspired me with confidence. I shall never forget the deep impression which the reading of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, made upon my mind. Shortly after I began reading this inspired book I was entirely healed, and I have also been completely freed of a throat trouble, attacks of which recurred every autumn as soon as mists set in. This was nearly six years ago, and I have never had any such trouble since, although I go out in any kind of weather.

About two years ago I had a serious relapse accompanied with high fever, while the pain was almost unbearable. I declared the truth to the best of my understanding, but wrote to a Christian Science practitioner the next day, asking her to take up treatment. Through her faithful assistance I was able to get up on the following day and soon was completely restored. My husband had called in the physician against my wish, and the latter had declared the case to be a very serious one. His prescription was that I should stay in bed for at least three weeks and then have an after-cure of four weeks' duration.

This latter experience was a reminder to me, as I had become negligent with my work. Since then I have repeatedly had victories over seemingly insurmountable difficulties, and I feel it impossible to express in words my gratitude for this understanding of the truth which has been made clear to me by the teachings of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. My endeavor shall be to follow our Master's precepts. —
