Testimonies of Healing

I desire to testify to the healing...

From the October 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to testify to the healing power of Christian Science and to give utterance to some of the gratitude felt for its ministrations. Having been reared in the so-called orthodox belief, I supposed there was little opportunity for salvation elsewhere. When Christian Science was first brought to my attention, I cast it contemptuously aside, proud of what I considered my intellectual superiority. The change in my mental attitude began after several months spent in the home of a faithful Christian Scientist whose life convinced me that I ought to know something about her religion.

The study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was then taken up, and as my interest grew I read more diligently. I also kept trying to follow the advice of our text-book by putting into practice what I already knew (see Science and Health, p. 323). Although my progress was slow, I finally became convinced that Christian Science offered all I needed, and so availed myself of the privilege of membership in the Christian Science church.

Later I was called upon for proof of my profession. A large carbuncle appeared on my neck and it soon became necessary to ask for Christian Science help. In spite of the so-called laws associated with this manifestation,—inability to work and nights sleepless with pain,—I felt little if any discomfort and did not lose an hour from my office. My sleep also was unbroken, except in the early stages, when for part of one night my rest was not wholly normal. The swelling was not lanced, but it soon broke without material assistance and disappeared without leaving any scar. This convinced me that Christian Science treatment was far preferable to material remedies.
