Testimonies of Healing

In sincere gratitude for what...

From the August 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In sincere gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine I am sending this testimony, in the hope that it may help others. A little over ten years ago I was pronounced incurable by many physicians. Owing to the severity of the attacks and the continuous strain of constant illness, I was such a nervous wreck that the physicians said I might pass on during one of those attacks. When I seemed to be weary of my existence, I received a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel from an unknown friend.

I had never before heard of Christian Science, but after reading the Sentinel I knew I had found the religion I had always longed for. My childhood's home was a very religious one. My parents never failed to see that their children worked faithfully for and were obedient to the rules of their church, teaching them to put God first in everything. In spite of all the happiness I got from this training, there was always an inward yearning for a religion that could give me proof of the teachings of the Bible. Soon after reading the Sentinel I got the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, from the library, as I saw this book referred to many times in the Sentinel. The library allowed me to have it only for three weeks, but my interest in it was so great that I found I must have one of my own. A noticeable fact was that from the time I began to study the book I began to get better. A few weeks after I began studying it, with only a slight understanding of its teachings, I was able to overcome an attack that was coming on. Gradually I was healed; and to-day, through the understanding which Christian Science has given me of God's laws as found in the Bible, I am a healthy woman, rejoicing in the fact that whatever discordant condition may appear it is overcome through Christian Science.

I am grateful for all physical healings; but words can never express the gratitude I feel for the understanding of the Scriptures which has come to me through the study of the textbook and all the other writings of our beloved Leader, whose purity enabled her to give to mankind this wonderful truth. I am also very grateful that I am a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church.—
