Testimonies of Healing

I am very grateful to God and to...

From the September 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am very grateful to God and to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower; also to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for giving to the world a religion that is practicable. I am also grateful for our church services, and for the authorized Christian Science periodicals, which are the silent missionaries traveling to all parts of the world, helping our brothers and sisters to worship the same ever present God that we have learned to love and adore.

I have received so many blessings from Christian Science that I consider it a duty to express my gratitude. Christian Science has been my only physician for the past twenty-nine years; but an earnest study of this Science was not commenced until thirteen years ago. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 392): "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously." I did not follow her instructions, and as a consequence I seemed to express many bad traits. On page 390 Mrs. Eddy also says, "Truth will at length compel us all to exchange the pleasures and pains of sense for the joys of Soul."

After floundering a long time in the waters of mortal mind, I was awakened through suffering to the fact that if I desired to be healed I must do my part and remove from my consciousness all wrong thinking as fast as possible. Heretofore all I thought was necessary in order to be healed was to call a practitioner, and all would be well again; but I had come to the place where I saw that something was required of me. I had been laboring under the illusion that disease was physical, and not once did I think that vicious habits caused it. When my attention was arrested I began to cast out of my thoughts everything that did not emanate from God. While being transformed I was healed of smoking, drinking, dishonesty, profanity, blood poisoning, appendicitis, carbuncle, and stomach trouble. Some of my problems were met with a few treatments, while others required years of diligent study of our textbooks, in order to solve them.
