Eight years ago our daughter, then ten years old, passed on. The shock caused me to lose my health, and resulted in a mental and physical breakdown. I thought I had every ill that "flesh is heir to," and I got so despondent that I did not want to live. I was under a doctor's care, and was ordered to have my tonsils removed; then my teeth; and yet I had one nervous breakdown after another. This went on for three years. Once when I took a prescription to be filled at a drug store, after some talk the druggist remarked, "With your disposition and good reading you should get well." One day while I was at my last doctor's for treatment, he suggested that I try Christian Science; and in my desperation I said, "I might even try that." I told my husband, and he asked me to borrow some books from a neighbor. This I did; and I thank God with all my heart that she lent me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and asked me to read the chapter on Prayer. At this time I could not sleep or walk much, on account of weakness; so I read nearly all the time. One difficulty after another was rapidly met by reading Science and Health and attending the church services. In February, five years ago, I attended my first Christian Science lecture. That very night I was healed of the desire for medicine. From then until now I have been gaining in health and understanding.
In April, 1926, when a daughter was born to us it seemed as if our happiness was complete; and our daily prayer is that we may live this beautiful truth. Indeed, I am most grateful for all the Christian Science literature, which has been such a help to me. I am grateful for every activity of the Christian Science movement. — Detroit, Michigan.
