Testimonies of Healing

It is with a desire to help others...

From the June 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a desire to help others as I have been helped, that I give my testimony. Several years ago I had an opportunity to take up the study of Christian Science, but as I thought it dealt with mere human will, I did not give it any attention at the time. A few years later an aunt who was interested in Christian Science came to visit us. She asked me to go to church with her, and out of respect to her I went. This changed my notions of Christian Science a little, but not sufficiently to study it. In 1923, however, it was proved to me that our extremity is God's opportunity. I was then suffering from an organic trouble of about eight years' standing, defective eyesight for which I had worn glasses for over seven years, and extreme nervousness. For the organic trouble I had tried electric, chiropractic, osteopathic, and homeopathic treatments; also an operation, which proved unsuccessful.

At this time I thought if I could only get away from myself I would become better, so I decided to take up other work besides my housework. I found a place; and it was proved to me later that God was leading me. One day at the office, religion was discussed. I listened with interest, as I had been a member of an orthodox church and a teacher in the Sunday school and had loved God, although I could not connect Him with the ills that I had. A lady who was interested in Christian Science gave her idea of God and of religion. This made a great impression upon me. After we left the office I asked her more about Christian Science, and if she thought it could heal me. She said she knew it could, and told me of the many wonderful healings she had experienced and of others she had witnessed. There was no doubt left in my mind but that Christian Science was the way out of my difficulties.

I called a Christian Science practitioner for help for the organic trouble, which began to improve right away, although somewhat slowly at first. Then I tried to go along by myself, but I soon became discouraged; so I called a practitioner and asked her to help me. I began to see the light; and as time went on and I learned to practice the admonition which Mrs. Eddy gives us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261), "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts," health became established in my consciousness and manifested itself on my body. I have also been healed of burns, cuts, colds, sties, and fear. At one time I was instantaneously healed of a very severe attack of neuritis.
