Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." When Christian Science came into my life I was bowed down with what I now know to be false responsibilities. I was indeed weary and heavy-laden, and in answer to my prayer for help a Christian Scientist came to work with me as my colleague at school. She lent me her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and after I had read the first chapter on Prayer I knew I had found the solution of my difficulties. My health began to improve at once, and I found myself free from attacks of influenza and tonsillitis, which previously had occurred almost regularly every year.

The responsibilities which had drawn so heavily upon my resources gradually lifted when I learned the real meaning of the words from Isaiah, "The government shall be upon his shoulder;" while the awakening to the joy of living was gradual and steady.

Over three years ago I had a severe experience which proved a testing time. For six weeks I was unable to use my feet and hands and could do nothing but read. This proved to be a great blessing, for it gave me the rest and time, for which I had longed, to seek the truth from the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. With the loving help of my friend I learned the great lesson of patience, to "be still, and know" God. Many times the angels of His presence were very near to me, proving that God is "a very present help in trouble."
