Testimonies of Healing

A sense of profound gratitude...

From the September 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A sense of profound gratitude impels me to relate a recent healing of a case of mushroom poisoning.

A few hours after eating the mushrooms, I was stricken with a burning pain in the throat. It was then that I decided to rely unreservedly on the Christ, Truth, as I knew it in Christian Science, for my sole help. I was one mile from home at the time, and set out to walk the distance by a road that led by a dense swamp and through woods. It was while in this wilderness in the evening twilight that I was all but overcome with great sickness in the stomach and bowels. But I was able to resume my journey homeward. Since the woods were wet because of recent rains, my one desire was to reach our barn, where I could lie down alone and quietly attain a clearer sense of Truth. This I was enabled to do.

While lying thus in the barn, I heard the sound of a motor at the house a short distance away. I was able to get to the house and found to my surprise and great joy two Christian Science practitioners and other Science friends who had come from their homes about thirty-five miles distant. They had been detained on a friendly call much beyond their original intention of remaining, and the explanation would be hard to find outside of divine provision for my need.
