CAUSE AND EFFECT ONE—INSEPARABLE

From the September 1938 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is emphatic in its upholding of the First Commandment (Exodus 20:3), "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." There is one God, one creator, one great First Cause, known also in Christian Science as Mind, Spirit, Soul, Life, Truth, Love, Principle.

Since God is Mind, His creation or universe—His manifestation— consists of ideas, a term which embraces every attribute or quality of Deity. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 275 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love."

The words just quoted emphasize the oneness and allness of Deity. God exists, expressing Himself in ideas, infinite in number, which ideas constitute His creation or universe; and, obviously, there never is any separation between God and His manifestation. It is impossible to think of even a momentary separation between Mind and its ideas. Moreover, every spiritual idea reflects the nature of God; reflects His intelligence, perfection, unchangeableness, eternality. In this is seen the indissoluble union between God and His creation, the inseparability of cause and effect.
