Testimonies of Healing

A severe illness in my infancy was believed...

From the September 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A severe illness in my infancy was believed to have left me with a stubborn case of eczema, together with nervousness, poor digestion, and a generally anemic condition. For about twenty years my parents were untiring in their efforts to employ the aid of the different schools of medicine in my behalf. New discoveries and advertised cures were always hopefully tried. But I only grew worse, until the eczema covered my entire body, including face and hands. The last doctor, a skin specialist, after a series of injections and tests, gave up the case as incurable. This dark hour, filled with intense irritation, misery, and ugliness, brought me in desperation to try Christian Science.

In the long journey to complete healing certain moments stand out; and now, as I look back, I see them as a series of healings, which brought the consummation of my original desire with much, much more added.

The first of these healings came when I learned what God is. The practitioner's simple words were so filled with an illumined sense of His allness that I caught my first view of the reality and power of God as Spirit, whose law is loving and true. I knew I had found what I wanted, and I commenced reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Since then I have not stopped reading, rereading, and pondering our precious textbook. This first work healed me of a dread of being alone in the house, as well as of constipation of long standing, although neither of these difficulties was mentioned to the practitioner.
