Testimonies of Healing

The Bible, when speaking of Josiah, tells...

From the November 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Bible, when speaking of Josiah, tells us that "he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord" and that "while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father" (II Chron. 34:2, 3). Our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has certainly made it possible for us to be like Josiah. All my life I have been blessed and benefited by her wise and loving provisions for our progress. Instruction in the Christian Science Sunday School, membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and class instruction have all been priceless gifts. Then she has provided for us annual association meetings, the periodicals, the Reading Rooms, lectures on Christian Science, through the Manual of The Mother Church, which protects the entire movement she founded. Loving practitioners are ever ready to help us. Is it any wonder that we love and revere this great woman who has given us Christian Science!

Once during a trip to Mexico I became violently ill. I prayed for strength to reach a telephone to call a practitioner in the United States for help, as I did not have a Journal with me in which to look up a local practitioner. The people with whom I was working barely knew me and wished to summon a doctor. I thanked them, but of course said "No." Then a gentleman said to me: "You're a Christian Scientist, aren't you? Would you like me to call a practitioner for you?" He did so, and within an hour I was free from the trouble.

I have recovered lost articles, and even stolen goods were recovered in a manner quite remarkable to human sense. All my jewelry was stolen. Work in Christian Science was taken up at once, and when the realization came that I was not working for the return of matter, but rather rejoicing that I knew that God, Spirit, is All and I could never be separated from Him, the healing was made apparent in my experience. I received a package in the mail with all my jewelry but the two most valuable pieces. I continued to work, and in two days they were returned in the same way.
