Testimonies of Healing

From the January 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a sincere and humble desire to share with others the blessings which have come to me through the teachings and application of Christian Science that I give my testimony. Although I have had many healings, the most outstanding one was that of a disease of the spine with complications, including paralysis in various parts of the body. I had to lie on a board instead of a mattress. A spinal specialist who examined me told my husband that I had a maximum of three or four months to live, during which time I would have to undergo very painful spinal injections.

Previously we had been interested in Christian Science for a while but had drifted away. I decided at once to contact a practitioner and ask for help, which I did. She said that she would come at once to see me, but I replied that I felt I should make an effort to rise and go to her, remembering that the prodigal son in Jesus' parable had arisen in humility to return to his father.

It was no easy task, but my husband finally got me into our car and to the practitioner's home. She greeted me most lovingly and asked me to be seated. I explained to her that I could not bend or sit down without severe pain and that I could stand for a short while only if supported by someone. Then the thought came to me that Jesus often required something of those he healed, as when he commanded one man to rise and walk and another to stretch forth his hand. I made an effort and sat down, although with great distress.
