Testimonies of Healing

From the September 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Psalms we read (107:7). "He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation." It is a cause for continual joy that a dear friend brought some Christian Science literature into our home some twenty years ago and that my family was led into the way of this Science, in which we found the real man's "city of habitation" to be the kingdom of God, a present and eternal habitation in infinite Spirit and Love.

At that time we were dissatisfied with the teachings of our orthodox church. With two of my sisters I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where our questions were answered to our complete satisfaction and where we were taught to use the Science of Christianity in daily life. A childhood complaint of biliousness was healed, and I was happy to be able to eat without fear of the consequences. I can never express sufficient gratitude for the loving and clear teaching I received in the Sunday School, for it supported me in subsequent years whilst I was serving in the Australian Women's Army Service, where I had ample opportunity to practice the truths of Christian Science.

During my Army experience a painful growth developed on my foot. I suffered severe pain and discomfort and was finally unable to wear a shoe. It appeared that the problem would prevent my attending a school for promotion, and I decided it was time to handle and destroy the erroneous condition. In reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly I found the following Bible verse included in the Responsive Reading (Hebr. 12:13): "Make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed." Also Hymn No. 64 in the Christian Science Hymnal was constantly in my thought. When I glimpsed the truth regarding man as an idea of Spirit, the growth came away completely and easily. I attended the school, enjoying drill, route marches, and physical exercises; and I gained my promotion.
