"ASK WHAT YE WILL"

From the January 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you," said Christ Jesus (John 15:7). Yet in spite of the magnanimity of their promise, do these words at times seem abstract, their meaning far removed from everyday life? Do we sometimes seem to ask in vain—to seek healing and yet remain unhealed?

It is noteworthy that Jesus seldom made a promise or effected healing without either directly stating or indirectly implying the obligation involved. Christian Science is the Science of Christian healing, the Science taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus, and the promises and conditions of fulfillment are identical with his. Therefore, to believe that we can obtain its blessings without indebtedness on our part is erroneous. Healing through Christian Science is available to all on God's terms; but if we seek it upon our own terms, we shall be disappointed.

Healing has been well defined on a radio program in a series entitled, "How Christian Science Heals," currently broadcast by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. "Healing," once stated the commentator, "is the bringing of thought and action into harmony with divine law." And when we awaken to the truth of being as revealed in Christian Science, we become aware of the necessity for this regeneration of human character through the harmonizing of thought and action with divine law. We begin to understand that asking of God embraces far more than petitioning or soliciting healing of Him.
