Watch and Pray

From the September 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Watch with me," Jesus said to those he loved.
Yet sleep into their drowsy senses crept,
And so he agonized and prayed alone
While others slept.

Now when the world has need of us, we pray:
Let us be ever watchful and alert,
Knowing there is no power opposed to God
To bind or hurt.

Within the radiance of the flaming sword
Truth's guardian stands as porter at the door:
We would be faithful sentinels on guard
Forevermore.
