NO NECESSITY FOR DISCORD

From the February 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Often we hear it said, "You have to take the bad with the good." But do we? Repetition of such a lie is one of the ways mortal mind would lull us into admitting that discord is to be expected. These suggestions are based upon the false assumption that man is a material entity, separated from God.

However, the truth is infinitely above all the lies of the carnal mind. Man coexists with God. He does not wander through a human experience, sometimes reaching the truth and at other times falling short of it. And Christianity is true Science, operating according to established laws. God's laws are found in the Bible and include the commandment that we love God with all our being. The laws of Christianity are explained and clarified in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Study of this textbook makes it clear that ignorance of God is one of the basic causes of discord and that loving God supremely requires the surrender of dependence upon materiality. Obedience to law produces results as certainly in Christian Science as in other sciences with which we are more familiar.

An important factor in the demonstration of the calm and permanent harmony and joy that are natural to the man of God's creating is the denial of a necessity for discord of any nature. If we would experience unceasing joy and inspiration, we must never admit into consciousness any claim that man must or can experience their opposites. We must abide calmly in our understanding that the spiritual creation is the only creation and that in this universe eternal harmony is the fact.
