OVERCOMING LIMITATION AND RESTRICTION

From the September 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many of the changes that are taking place in the world today result from the desire of men to overcome the limits that a mortal, material sense of being has placed upon them. Mrs. Eddy states clearly what it is that restricts (Science and Health, p. 255): "Mortal man has made a covenant with his eyes to belittle Deity with human conceptions. In league with material sense, mortals take limited views of all things."

God, infinite Spirit, is not responsible for the limits and restrictions that mortals place upon themselves. These are inherent in a material sense of existence because, in the final analysis, matter itself is merely objectified limitation. It is mortal mind's false sense of substance, the exact opposite of unlimited, unrestricted Spirit, Soul.

Limitations and restrictions are, then, phases of restrictive thought that are overcome as human belief yields to spiritual understanding. This fact understood will transform what is called the human economy and free it from all that is limiting and restricting.
