Church in action News and Announcements

CHURCH. The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.

The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick.

—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 583).

The things a Reading Room is good for!

From the May 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One visitor to a California Reading Room was a young woman checking on the Christian Scientist's view of women's liberation.

The librarian gave her references in Science and Health and in Mrs. Eddy's other prose writings. She borrowed these books from the Reading Room's lending library and bought "My Best Friend" for her little girl. She said she was especially pleased to find this information because she knew no other religious denomination that permits women to hold high office in its church.
