Our youngest son was born with a very prominent birthmark covering his forehead. His appearance was shocking and heartbreaking to me. (I knew nothing of Christian Science at that time.) At the insistence of a family member I resorted to several methods to remove this disfigurement, none of which was successful. This only aggravated the condition, causing the child to cry most of the time and interfering with our sleep at night.
During my deepest despair a new friend came to call. When she saw my reluctance to show the child, she told me of Christian Science and its power to heal all forms of sickness and unhappiness. I was so thirsty for this truth that I soon made an appointment with a Christian Science practitioner who lived nearby.
This was the beginning of a new life for my family and me. I remember little of what the practitioner told me when I called on her, except that I knew beyond a doubt every word was the truth. One point has remained with me. She explained that there is no growth but spiritual growth. I clung to this precious truth, trying to understand it, and a voice within said clearly (Isa. 30:21), "This is the way, walk ye in it."
