MOMENTUM Reports from the Field

From the January 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

People learn a great deal during church services. Here's the experience of a Reader in a Church of Christ, Scientist, who's learning right along with the congregation.

Serving as First Reader continues to be an adventure! I might have imagined that this office would become routine, time-consuming, even burdensome. Not so. But this change was the result of some significant changes that took place in me.

To begin with, I stopped agreeing with the thought that the congregation remains the same. I began to see that this superficial impression wasn't accurate. If man is an idea of God that is forever developing, then what I see as sameness or stagnation is a deceptive view of man. This new outlook has included some significant changes and growth in many areas of our church, including the First Reader!
