Testimonies of Healing

This testimony is long overdue

From the July 1994 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This testimony is long overdue. The teachings of Christian Science have been my way of life for many years; I found them as a young adult, and have had their joy all my married life. Our three sons were born and reared under the guidance and teachings of Science and Health, and my husband and I endeavored to consider all situations, good or bad, in the light of these teachings. This meant listening carefully for God's directives for our well-being. Most always our own prayers brought answers. Sometimes we would call a practitioner to pray for us in restoring harmony.

The weekly Bible Lessons are indispensable for prayer and study, and I am so grateful for their helpful guidance. A physical problem that came to me in later years was most painful, and called for lots of patient prayer. The symptoms of arthritis were present for quite some time. I had called on a practitioner for prayerful help over an extended period.

I considered the common belief that this condition is incurable; medication is claimed to be a help, but not something that heals it. Although my movements were restricted and I was in pain, I refused to accept this state as reflective of my God-given identity. The symptoms persisted for over a year, but complete healing came, and there has been no return of the condition. In praying for this healing, I followed this guidance: "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts" (Science and Health, p. 261).
