A trunk full of treasures

From The Christian Science Journal - October 21, 2015

Originally written in Spanish, this first appeared as a testimony in the October 2015 Portuguese, Spanish, French, and German editions of The Herald of Christian Science.

Since the very first time I began reading the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, it completely caught my attention. I wanted to know more about God and could not stop reading it. The ideas it offered were completely different from the ones I had always believed in. And as I read, many problems I was facing started to be solved, without my even realizing it.

When I first started reading Science and Health, my daughter and I were living together, and neither of us had a job. Although I hadn’t been praying specifically about this, suddenly several ideas came up that we began putting into practice, and in just two months we had good work. My specialty was making wigs. My daughter joined me, and we started making wigs and hairpieces for a very famous hairdresser in Argentina. Afterward, we continued to work more independently and God’s supply was always present.

All good is within our reach because for God and with God all things are possible.

One physical healing that caught me by surprise was when I discovered that my tonsils were now the normal size. My tonsils had been too big, and sometimes, when I got sick from angina, it was difficult for me to breathe. I’d suffered from the tonsil condition since childhood, and doctors had told my parents that I would be at great risk if I didn’t have surgery. However, healing from these troubling physical issues came through the action of the divine Mind on my thought as I better understood my relationship to God.

Through the study of Science and Health, I’ve realized that when we pray, one of the most important things is to listen to God, to recognize that we are the reflection of God, and that we therefore reflect divine intelligence. Nothing is new to God, infinite good, and when we recognize the unwavering unity we have with Him, we realize there are infinite possibilities for progress in front of us—for learning and proving spiritual reality. Our spiritual identity is the perfect reflection of the perfect Mind, and when we are aware of this spiritual truth, we realize all good is within our reach because for God and with God all things are possible (see Matthew 19:26).

For me, Christian Science is like a trunk full of very valuable treasures, and when we persistently rummage through it, we are rewarded with pearls. Christian Science teaches us about our relationship to divine Love, and about God’s laws and how to apply them in our daily lives. It’s really very powerful in overcoming the challenges, big and small, that we face.
