Deathless and birthless

From The Christian Science Journal - April 4, 2012

Terrified barely describes how I was feeling. It all began when there was a loud clunk and everything started forward with a jerk. We climbed to what seemed like the height of a hundred feet, and with every swoop and spin I became more frightened. I cried out for my parents as loudly as I could. The car that my parents owned could go pretty fast but never had I felt anything like this! Soon enough, I glided safely to a stop and saw my mom and dad there waiting for me. I scrambled to get to them before the whole process started again. You see, I’d just experienced my first roller coaster ride.

My parents had taken me to the grocery store one day, and I saw there in the large parking lot that a traveling carnival had come to town. As soon as we parked the car, I was enthralled by it all. I’d never seen anything like it. With huge eyes, I asked my parents about the noisy, giant rides that I could see from our parking space. They talked together for a moment and then told me that I could go on the roller coaster. They walked me to the ticket booth, and soon I was strapped into my seat, just able to see over the side.

It’s all pretty funny to think about now. It really wasn’t that big of a roller coaster, but it all sure seemed imposing then.
