Unfailing justice

From The Christian Science Journal - July 10, 2013

Adapted from an article originally published in German in The Herald of Christian Science, February 2009.

Some years ago I had an experience that challenged me to deepen my understanding that no matter how dire the human circumstances seem to be, divine Love, Truth, and Principle are all-powerful.

In mid-2004, my company was hired to raise capital for the development of a piece of land. Our client had already signed a purchase agreement to buy the land, and our job was to find an investor to fund the construction of the building. We promptly attracted an investor for the project, but through the fault of our client, the land purchase contract was withdrawn by the seller. Then the investor, who was still interested in the property, purchased it directly from the seller and began the construction of the building, thus cutting our client out of the deal.

Under our contract with the client, we were not entitled to receive the performance fee we had been promised upon successful closure of a development agreement between the client and the investor. However, we were still owed a retainer fee for our work, and the client did not pay this amount. We decided not to pursue the matter, though, since our company’s aim was doing real estate deals, not confronting clients in a courtroom.
