From the January 1902 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Recently heard of a demonstration which interested me, and I would like to give it. A man who is a Christian Scientist is employed in a factory where machinery is used. He has met with several accidents. The men in the factory all watch him very closely and say, "Well, this time you surely will have to have a surgeon," but he never did. His last accident was a crushing and tearing of the palm of his hand. It was so pushed back and torn away that the muscles and ligaments were plainly visible, and the men said. "Surely this time you will have to have a surgeon. Probably you will never have the use of that hand again anyway." But he put them all off and was taken home. I think that they bound his hand up. He begged to be taken home, because his daughter was a Scientist and he knew he would have help there. He was treated by Science, and in a very short time,—I am not sure about the time, but think it was something like two weeks, possibly three,—the man was back again at his post, and Science had done the work. He is a very grateful man to think that he was spared the suffering of the surgical operation, and also possibly the loss of his hand.—
