As I have received so much benefit, spiritually and physically, from reading the testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel, I feel that I am not expressing sufficient gratitude to God if I withhold longer my experience in healing, which might help some one as other testimonies have helped me. Five years ago I was for several weeks confined to bed with a nervous collapse. I was gradually losing strength, and finally became unable to feed myself, and for months before I was confined to the bed I was not able to read.
As I failed to receive any benefit from medical treatment or massage, I was in the depths of despair when suddenly a thought like an illumination flashed into my mind, and I said to my husband, "There is a higher power than that," pointing to the medicine on the table, "and I am going to be well." I know now that it was an angel, God's messenger, speaking to me. I prayed earnestly that God would lead me and make the way clear for my recovery. My prayer was not answered for several weeks, and I grew gradually weaker and more depressed, when Truth spoke to me again, and I asked the nurse if she knew anything about Christian Science. She replied that she had heard of those who had received much benefit from it and that she would advise me to try it, if all else failed. The result was that the second day from this time, which was Tuesday, a practitioner came and gave me a treatment. She came every day the rest of the week, and on Sunday I was dressed in quite heavy clothing (for it was very cold) and walked down one flight of stairs, besides several steps to the sidewalk, and got into a carriage and took a long drive.
I think it was after the third treatment that I began to read Science and Health, and very soon was able to read without difficulty, as long as I wished. In two weeks I was able to go to the practitioner for treatment. During the past five years I have not been entirely free from physical discord, and at times I have sought the help of a practitioner, but every ailment has been met, and I realize that every one overcome is an advancement in spiritual growth and in the consciousness of the power of divine Love to cast out fear.
