Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has been of...

From the January 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been of such benefit to me that I should be very ungrateful if I did not express my gratitude for the healings I have received.

When I first became interested, I do not think I fully realized what had been done for me. I was instantaneously healed during the war of a physical ailment which had caused suffering at various periods since childhood; but, following this healing, I did not feel sufficiently grateful. For many years I studied the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy intermittently, but did not attend church at once. However, we sent our daughter to the Christian Science Sunday School, and she brought home a few truths to us; so, after a while, we began to attend church. This made our lives much fuller and more pleasant.

I have received many healings since that which first awakened my interest. One I should like to mention. I went to bed one night feeling very lame in my back and legs. The pain became greater, so that I could not sleep. I had no fear, but a quiet feeling of comfort, knowing that since God is ever present He would let no harm come to one of His children. The next morning I awoke to the sound of the alarm and tried to rise. The pain was so acute that I could not move without suffering. However, as I had to go about my usual business, I kept on trying to get up, although the pain was almost unbearable. Finally, I succeeded in getting upon my feet. Then I almost fainted. I felt my way to the kitchen to get some water. I drank a glass of water and started back to begin dressing. I remember nothing more until I awoke to consciousness on the floor on which I had fallen, and on opening my eyes saw my wife looking anxiously down at me. I managed to get back to bed, and on being left to myself began to apply what I knew of Christian Science and to read some parts of Science and Health. In an hour or two I arose, dressed, and went out to attend to my duties. I am grateful to say that by night I was thoroughly healed. Several times since I have had faint echoings of the same trouble, but with the aid of a faithful and kind practitioner, and honest study on my own part, enough love has been poured in to displace belief in sickness. I also know now, as never before, that, as Mrs. Eddy says on page 192 of Science and Health, "The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable."
