Testimonies of Healing

I was induced by a friend to try...

From the January 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was induced by a friend to try Christian Science after my physician had declared that four operations would be necessary before I could ever be well again. I was suffering from a nervous breakdown, and was in constant pain from chronic appendicitis. I was also under deep financial worry. The physician declared that as nothing could be done I must go to a hospital. This I declined to do, as it seemed impossible from a financial standpoint, and would necessitate the breaking up of my home. I simply could not do it. This ultimatum was reached one night after my physician and nurse declared that they could do no more. After they had gone, I said to myself that if I lived until morning I would try Christian Science. After I made the decision I fell asleep and slept until morning, the first restful sleep I had had in months.

In the morning a practitioner was called, and I shall never forget my first treatment. I then threw away all medicines and took off a plaster jacket which I had been wearing, and which had been ordered by my physician. After the third treatment I felt as if I were walking on air. The first statement that came to my thought from the Bible was, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I had not read the Bible for several years. Neither had I been attending any special church, as a sense of great injustice had made me turn away from churches of various denominations, although I was seeking the truth through other channels. I had been looking into mental science and other isms, but was not satisfied.

Christian Science I felt was the truth; and for twenty years I have looked by its aid to God for help in every time of need, and have never looked in vain. Some of the many blessings that have come to me have been the healing of severe stomach trouble of many years' standing, of nervous prostration, acute appendicitis, depression, extreme weariness, heart trouble, fear, and grief.
