Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." I have never known anything else to lean upon, having been raised in a Christian Science family, and the blessings have been abundant.
To me, the biggest proof of the practicality of Christian Science is the protection it gives us from disease and other discords. We gain this protection not through blind faith, but through an understanding of God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. The very few childhood problems I experienced were met quickly with the help of Christian Science alone.
Another proof I count among my blessings is the good companionship I have always had. It was only about ten years ago that I was a teen-ager, and then, as now, people deplored the fact that there was so much juvenile delinquency. I do not think my parents ever worried about me when I was away from the house, and they did not need to. Having Christian Science as the foundation of my thinking, I was never tempted to try something exciting and wrong, or to go along with the gang to be popular. In fact, I seldom found myself in an unwholesome atmosphere. I always had a wonderful time and many friends. There were never any questions asked or suggestions made that I might be spoiling the fun of others because I did not drink or smoke. When I went away to college, my experience was further enriched by being able to attend the Christian Science Organization at a neighboring university.
After I had taught kindergarten for two years, I met the young man who later became my husband, and our marriage has been a very happy one. My husband had also been raised in Christian Science, and we have rejoiced in the proof of God's good plan for His children. We have been richly blessed with a family and happy home conditions.
It is a privilege to be a Christian Scientist and to be able to help others to become acquainted with this wonderful Science. I am grateful for the opportunity of teaching in the Sunday School and for class instruction, which is invaluable in gaining a better understanding of God and His love for all.— Birmingham, Michigan.
I wish to verify my wife's testimony and to express my gratitude for the blessing of our companionship, which came about after I had spent nearly ten years in seeking the right one for me. It need not have taken that long at all, for the lesson I first had to learn was this: to establish in consciousness the right sense of true manhood and womanhood, as taught in Christian Science. In other words, instead of searching for the girl who best typified what I wanted in a wife, my work was to endeavor to express all of those qualities the right girl would want in a husband.
One day it became clear to me that the work was done and that the time had come to leave the field to God. I knew that in the same way that the divine Mind brings buyer and seller together for mutual good, so God would also bring about the right sense of companionship for two people. Moreover, I realized that this recognition of right companionship would not be the result of the passage of time, but rather, a spiritual unfoldment in the consciousness of both people.
During this time I experienced the blessings of happy companionship with many people. I felt no loneliness, for I knew that my true companionship was to be found in my relationship to God and that friendship and kindness are God-derived qualities for all to express. Consequently, when I met the girl who later became my wife, it was with no surprise at all that I sensed immediately that we were the right ones for each other. Our years of marriage have been rich with the blessings of spiritual progress in Christian Science and the rich rewards that come to us through such progress.
For the privilege of church activity, for class instruction, and for the rich outpouring of God's goodness to His children, I am most grateful. There are no words capable of expressing my sincere gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for her wonderful revelation of Christian Science.— Birmingham, Michigan.
