EVERY temptation that comes to one is a challenge to his ability. Measuring ability from human standpoints and material sense evidence, one might be convinced that he cannot do what he should, and hence he becomes afraid or resigned. But understanding that man is the reflection of God brings with it an altogether new dimension to ability, and one can rise up and say with Paul (Phil. 4:13), "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
Whatever is necessary for us to do, we can do. With this viewpoint, we can silence debilitating fear and bend all our efforts to fulfilling the need. God, divine Truth and Love, is the source of man's ability. This source is infinite and omnipotent. It knows no limits or obstruction. We read in Jeremiah (32:17), "Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee."
Christ is the spiritual idea of man's son-ship with God. Christ reveals that man is the emanation of divine Mind, the activity of divine Principle. It is through Christ that we can realize our own ability to demonstrate God's power and dominion. Mrs. Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 316), "The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine son-ship." And later on, on the same page she says, "Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth."
