From the November 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I shall always be grateful to our heavenly Father for guiding my mother to renew her study of Christian Science. Her grandmother and mother had been students of it, and she had attended Sunday School as a young girl. But many years lapsed before she began to rely wholeheartedly on this Science, and I was eight years old when I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. It was so new to me to learn that God is Love and that Love is ever present as the protective, governing, divine Being. I had been taught that God was a corporeal person far aloft in the heavens.

I remember my first healing soon after I started attending Sunday School. Our teacher had assured us that the right understanding of God would heal any illness. As I was returning from school one bitter cold day, suffering from a sore throat and a head cold, I began to ponder the truths of God our teacher had given us.

I thought of God, and I could feel His love as though it were wrapped around me like a cloak. Then I thought of how matter had no intelligence and therefore no power to cause soreness, since God is the only cause. Suddenly, I felt my throat returning to normal, and my head cleared completely. I was overwhelmed with this newfound truth and with my rapid recovery. I ran home to tell my mother, and she rejoiced with me.
