It is with humble gratitude to God and...

From the November 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with humble gratitude to God and a deep and ever-growing love for Christian Science that I write this testimony. I am grateful beyond words for God's abundant goodness, for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy and her steadfast search for Truth that enabled her to give to all mankind the textbook, Science and Health, and to found a church with branches in many parts of the world. Her receptivity to Truth was so pure, and she was so obedient, that we find ourselves with a religion that is the way of Life for all who turn to it in humility and love.

Several years ago I found myself generally dissatisfied with my life and the course that it seemed to be taking. I had been reared in Christian Science and as a child had experienced many beautiful healings. After marrying, I continued to attend church and enrolled our children in Sunday School but resorted to materia medica for much of our healing. About this time I met a practitioner who was serving as a Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services. Since my husband was in the service, the Minister informed me that we were entitled to his assistance any time we needed it. I was much impressed by the joyous vitality, intelligence, and love that this man expressed.

Shortly thereafter our eleven-year-old son was burned by molten lead down one side of his body. He was wearing only bathing trunks at the time, and to mortal sense the picture was terrifying. Neighbors kindly offered to drive us to the base hospital, but my thought returned to the Minister's offer of help, and I knew without hesitation that it was God we must rely on. I thanked my friends and took our son directly to the home of the Minister. He took us into his study, covered the burns with towels, and, looking immediately away from mortal sense testimony, turned to God in prayer.
