It was a blessed day about twenty-three years ago when I told my fiancee, a Christian Scientist, that I would attend her church and that after we were married I would allow any children we might have to attend a Christian Science Sunday School, although I would not promise that the children would have no medical aid. To date, with the children now of college age or older, there has been no need to insist on medical treatment for them, because Christian Science has proved to be a quick, effective means of taking care of their human needs while carrying them through the years to spiritual and moral advancement.
The high standards of our elder son led his wife into the study of this practical, usable truth just as the deep conviction and the practical application of Christian Science by my wife led me to see that the religion has substance. I still marvel at my wife's patience during our early married life in allowing me to emerge gradually from drinking, smoking, and materialism into the arms of God through the open door of Christian Science.
My first inkling of the power of God came when the rewards of right thinking and acting were demonstrated. Within two months after I had agreed that my wife could use our meager savings to help pay off an indebtedness of her branch church, we had moved to a new town, I had a new job, and we had purchased a house.
